Perhaps one of the most famous and historical
inhabitants of Windsor Grove is Gordon McGregor, who helped
establish Ford Canada in Windsor in 1904. Shortly after McGregor’s
auspicious meeting with Henry Ford in a small Walkerville
tavern to sign the deal the Canadian company was launched
in an old wagon works on the waterfront.
This small but momentous event signaled the
dawn of Windsor’s massive and still thriving automotive
industry. After McGregor’s passing in March, 1922, his
funeral cortege, one of the largest ever seen in Windsor,
reached Windsor Grove before the last car had taken on mourners
at his house on Victoria Avenue at Wyandotte Street.
